Google merges Google tag and Tag Manager into one measurement system
Per an update published in the Google Tag Manager Help Center dated August 20, 2026, Google is turning Google tag and Google Tag Manager into a more unified measurement system. Google tags are being upgraded into fully capable Tag Manager containers, so sites using only Google tag gain interface driven tagging, debugging and version control. Per Search Engine Land reporting dated August 24, the upgrade does not change how existing tags behave on the page. Visual tagging in beta creates events and conversions without code and is currently limited to Google Ads purchase conversions. Container optimization is not applied on its own, it is offered through an in account banner.
X launches an Ads MCP server for advertisers
Per the X Business announcement, the platform has made its X Ads Model Context Protocol server available, letting advertisers create, manage, optimize and measure campaigns from inside AI tools. Per Social Media Today reporting dated August 23, 2026, the server works with any MCP capable client including Grok, Claude Code or a custom agent built on the MCP SDKs. Per MediaPost it connects 23 X Ads tools, and advertisers can describe actions such as launching a campaign, checking performance, pausing ads and changing budgets or creative in plain language. Meta, TikTok, Pinterest and Snapchat had already announced advertiser facing MCP integrations.
Cloudflare moved its own blog to EmDash and version 1.0 is close
Cloudflare said it migrated its own blog to EmDash, a content management system built to work on Astro and with its own infrastructure. The staged migration completed on August 12. Per the post, normal load sits around 75 requests per second while spikes go above 5,000, and a 28,000 requests per second denial of service attack on August 10 was absorbed without issues. During Agents Week the blog took close to 3 million pageviews across 18 posts over 9 days, with 99.5 percent of static files served from cache. Per Search Engine Journal reporting dated August 24, the system launched as a 0.1.0 developer preview and is now approaching version 1.0.
The agenda moves fast, the system stays calm.
