Amazon joins YouTube's shopping affiliate program: creators can tag Amazon products in video

Per YouTube's announcement dated August 27, 2026, Amazon has been added to the YouTube Shopping affiliate program. Eligible US creators can tag Amazon products in Shorts, long form videos and livestreams.

01 · WHAT HAPPENED?

A long awaited name enters the program

The announcement was published on YouTube's official blog on August 27, 2026.

Amazon was added to the YouTube Shopping affiliate program, and eligible US creators can tag Amazon products.

The statement is attributed to Travis Katz, GM and VP of Shopping at YouTube. YouTube frames the reasoning as making it easier for viewers to buy the products they love from the creators they trust.

Per Engadget, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan also shared the announcement. Engadget frames the move as the retailer finally joining YouTube Shopping's affiliate program.

02 · THE DETAILS

How it works and who it covers

Tagging works across three formats: Shorts, long form videos and livestreams.

Creators earn commission on sales made through the products they tag.

The scope is narrow at this stage: the announcement refers to eligible US creators.

Per Engadget, the affiliate program also operates in Argentina, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Engadget reports that YouTube lowered the program's subscriber threshold from 1,000 to 500 in March 2026, with the aim of making earning from the program accessible to more accounts.

Also per Engadget, more than 1 million people have joined YouTube Shopping to date.

The announcement itself is short. The detail of the eligibility conditions does not appear in the body of the blog post, which points to a YouTube support page instead.

The blog post contains no numerical detail such as a commission rate, revenue share or phased rollout timeline.

03 · WHY IT MATTERS

The distance between discovery and purchase shrinks

The assessment in this section is ours. The classic problem of affiliate selling was the distance between the recommendation and the purchase. The viewer watches the video, then forgets.

Keeping the product tag inside the video shortens that distance. That it works in livestreams makes it possible to move to a purchase at the hottest moment of the decision.

The second point is catalog breadth. In affiliate selling, the wider the set of products a creator can recommend, the more natural the fit between content and product. That is why a large retailer joining means something different from adding a single brand.

The third is measurement. A commission based model ties influencer spend to realized sales rather than view counts. That makes it one of the easiest marketing forms to defend as a budget line.

The subscriber threshold having dropped to 500 completes the picture. Affiliate selling is now the business of narrow, niche communities and not only large channels.

There is a risk on the other side: if the whole of the content turns into a shop window, viewer trust erodes. Affiliate selling works precisely because of that trust.

04 · TURKEY

What it means for businesses in Türkiye

The assessment below does not appear in the source, it is our reading. Let us set the boundary first: the announcement refers to eligible US creators, and Türkiye is not in the announced scope of the program.

Even so it has a direct consequence for two groups. First, Turkish sellers exporting through Amazon: a new discovery surface appears where their products can be tagged by US creators.

Second, brands entering foreign markets with a creator. A commission based model is more measurable than a flat fee collaboration and shares the risk.

For the domestic market the real lesson is structural. Product discovery shifting from the search engine to video is a trend that continues whether or not the program reaches Türkiye.

The practical preparation sits on the product side: a clear product name, the right category, good imagery and consistent stock information. When a creator tags you, your purchase page has to be ready.

Expectation management is needed too. This story is not a feature you can use in Türkiye today, it is a direction to prepare for.

The UNALSOFT take

On the e-commerce side we always treat where a sale begins as a separate question. Most businesses measure the sale at the cart, yet the decision is made much earlier, at the point where someone describes the product to someone else. This move carries that moment inside the platform: the number of steps between recommendation and purchase falls. Even though the program does not cover Türkiye right now, the preparation can start today, because all of it sits on your own side: clean product data, accurate imagery and stock information that tells the truth. When a creator tags you, the winner is the side whose page is ready at that moment.
