ChatGPT Ads adds automated bidding, platform targeting and view-through conversions

ChatGPT Ads added a bid strategy aimed at maximizing results, platform targeting split across the iOS app, the Android app and web, and view-through conversion reporting at campaign, ad group and ad level. The platform is also expanding into Brazil and Mexico.

01 · WHAT HAPPENED?

The bidding decision moves from advertiser to system

Per Search Engine Land reporting dated August 24, 2026, ChatGPT Ads gained a set of new features. The headlines are an automated bid strategy aimed at maximizing results, platform level targeting, view-through conversion reporting and a measurement integration for cross channel performance tracking.

Per PPC Land, this automated bid strategy comes preselected in new ad groups. The default behavior takes the bidding decision away from the advertiser and gives it to the system.

This is an expected step in a young ad channel maturing. When we covered the European expansion of ChatGPT ads, setup and inventory were still the topic. The discussion has now moved to bidding and measurement mechanics.

02 · THE DETAILS

The limits of the new strategy, targeting and measurement details

The automated bid strategy sets and adjusts bids itself according to the campaign goal and aims to produce as many results as possible from the available budget.

There is a critical limit here. Per PPC Land, the strategy does not guarantee delivery against a specific cost per acquisition, cost per click or return on ad spend target, and offers no bid ceiling. Budget is the only constraint. For advertisers who need hard cost control, the manual maximum bid option remains the only route.

On targeting, a platform level split arrives: iOS app, Android app and web. That makes it possible to separate how the same campaign behaves on different surfaces.

On measurement, view-through conversion reporting opens at campaign, ad group and ad level. The detail matters: per PPC Land the window is fixed at one day, and the metric is excluded from bidding, billing and cost per acquisition.

Per Search Engine Land, a WorkMagic integration for cross channel performance tracking is also being added.

Geographically the platform is expanding into Brazil and Mexico. Because sources differ on the total market count and exact launch dates, we report only the expansion itself here.

03 · WHY IT MATTERS

Automation on a young channel makes measurement accuracy more critical

The assessment in this section is ours. Automated bidding is usually the right call on mature channels. But a channel being new means the data the automation learns from is also new and thin.

The real issue is this: what is the system maximizing? If the conversion you defined is wrong, the automation runs efficiently toward that wrong target. Measurement accuracy comes before bid strategy.

The second point is the absence of a bid ceiling. With no constraint beyond budget, a single day can cost noticeably more than expected. Businesses with hard cost targets are reasonable to keep the manual option.

The third is reading view-through conversions correctly. The metric appears in reports but does not enter bidding or billing. Total conversion counts can therefore look like they suddenly jumped. When comparing, whether this metric is included has to be held constant, otherwise cross channel comparison breaks.

The fourth is comparison discipline. A new channel has to be evaluated with the same measurement definition as existing ones. Different attribution windows produce different conclusions.

04 · TURKEY

What it means for businesses in Türkiye

The assessment below does not appear in the sources, it is our reading. Türkiye is not part of the announced expansion.

The direct effect of this news in Türkiye is limited today, since the reported expansion is toward Brazil and Mexico. It matters for preparation though, because when a channel opens in a market, the measurement set up in the first weeks determines every decision in the months after.

The practical preparation is this: the conversion definitions you use today on Google and Meta should be clear and singular. If you measure the same purchase with different definitions on different channels, adding a new channel makes comparison impossible.

The second point is expectation. New channels usually look cheap early and normalize as competition arrives. Rather than shifting budget permanently based on early results, moving with a test budget is healthier.

The third is advertising regulation. The commercial advertising regulation that took effect in Türkiye on August 1, 2026 brings disclosure and transparency obligations for AI generated and targeted advertising. When ads shown inside an AI chat reach Türkiye, that topic can be expected to be the first item on the agenda.

The fourth is the habit of watching. Following how this channel develops means being ready on the day it opens.

The UNALSOFT take

On the advertising management side our order never changes when entering a new channel: measurement first, then a test budget, automation last. Automated bidding is not a goal for us, it is a convenience unlocked after measurement accuracy is proven. Two things stand out in this ChatGPT Ads update: the absence of a bid ceiling, and view-through conversions entering the report but not the invoice. Both are easy to misread. That is why on new channels we always build the report two ways, with view-through conversions included and excluded. Shifting budget without looking at the same table from both angles usually means the report made the decision, not the channel.

Fix the measurement before entering a new channel.
