Demand Gen ads get a messaging test, multimodal video creation goes generally available
Google's Demand Gen announcement dated August 27, 2026 carries three items: a test for starting conversations on messaging apps from Demand Gen ads on YouTube, local activity and real time offer signals in travel ads, and Multimodal Video Creation in Asset Studio going generally available.
The announcement was published on the Google Ads and Commerce blog
Google announced three new items for Demand Gen campaigns in a blog post dated August 27, 2026. The post opens by stating that hundreds of improvements shipped to Demand Gen in the second half of 2025 are driving, on average, a 30 percent increase in conversions or conversion value.
The source of that 30 percent figure is stated plainly in the footnote: Google internal data, global, second half of 2025, Demand Gen experiment results. So it is not an independent audit, it is a test versus control comparison inside Google's own measurement setup.
Two of the three items concern how campaigns are served, one concerns creative production. The post also invites advertisers to Rethink Week 2026.
A messaging test, travel signals and Asset Studio
The first item is messaging. Google says it is testing new ways for viewers to start conversations with brands on messaging apps directly from Demand Gen ads on YouTube. The stated rationale is moving high intent customers closer to purchase.
This item is a test. The announcement does not say which messaging apps are covered, in which countries the feature is open, or how long the test will run. Because the source does not carry that detail, we do not speculate about it here.
The second item is travel. Demand Gen ads can surface local activities, events and real time offers for travelers. Hotel ads are also personalized to show relevant properties to the right audiences.
The third item is creative production. Multimodal Video Creation in Asset Studio is now generally available. Per Google, advertisers can go from storyboarding to producing horizontal and vertical assets in a single workflow.
The practical effect is that one production round yields both the horizontal and the vertical version. Google frames this as enabling the ad to show up across all Demand Gen inventory.
The announcement carries no information on pricing, quotas or a rollout timeline.
The destination of an ad shifts from a page to a conversation
The assessment in this section is ours. For a long time the destination of an ad was a page: the click arrives, the page opens, the form is filled. What the messaging test points at is that chain getting shorter.
A conversation carries less friction than a form but a higher operating cost. A database can answer a form, while a person or an agent has to answer a conversation. That difference lands on the team plan rather than the media budget.
There is a new measurement question too. When the conversation leaves the platform for a messaging app, where the conversion counts and how the conversation gets qualified has to be part of the campaign design. Otherwise the cost stays visible and the result does not.
On the creative side production cost drops. When cost drops the number of variations rises, and once it rises the selection stage becomes the most critical step of the campaign. A fast tool does not mean the output is right.
Reading the 30 percent figure means reading the footnote as well. It is an experiment result, not a promise. What it is worth in your own account only shows up in your own test.
What it means for businesses in Türkiye
The assessment below does not appear in the source, it is our reading. The announcement contains no Türkiye specific information and names no messaging app.
Türkiye is a market where selling largely runs through messaging. An ad whose destination is a conversation is not foreign behaviour here, it means what already happens is now formalised on the advertising side.
So the real preparation is operational rather than technical. The first question is response time: if a message coming from an ad is not answered within minutes, the advantage of low friction disappears while the budget keeps running.
The second question is who answers the line. A number tied to one employee's personal phone cannot carry a conversation flow fed by an advertising budget. Shifts, handover and record keeping have to be written down in advance.
The third question is data. The name, phone number and request collected in a conversation are personal data. The disclosure notice, the retention period and who has access to those conversations must be settled for KVKK purposes.
The fourth question is creative. In Türkiye the disclosure obligation introduced by the advertising rules that took effect on August 1, 2026 applies to AI generated ad films. The easier production gets, the easier it is to skip that clause.
The UNALSOFT take
On the advertising management side we handle updates like this with two questions: which bottleneck does this change open, and is that bottleneck really the client's bottleneck. The bottleneck the messaging test opens is not creative, it is the reply. Every new channel that arrives before response time and ownership are solved only enlarges the volume of missed opportunity. On video production our rule stays the same: we do not publish every generated variation, we filter against the brand guide first, test with a small budget, then scale the winner. And before we carry a number like 30 percent to a client we read its footnote: whose data, which period, which comparison. Without that reading a number should never become a target.
