The Google Ads Developer Policies tighten: shared proxies banned, a dedicated Cloud project required

Per an announcement published on the Google Ads Developer Blog on August 31, 2026, the policy was renamed from the Google Ads API Policy to the Google Ads Developer Policies, and integrations are required to connect directly to Google Ads services through their own dedicated Google Cloud project. The policy prohibits embedding credentials in middleware that obfuscates the origin of the automated action and operating shared developer proxy services; wrapper services and MCP servers are named among the prohibited structures. The risks Google lists are unauthorized account access, cross tenant data leaks and the performance bottleneck created by high volume traffic through a single proxy. Agencies and end advertiser clients must use their own Google Cloud Platform account and their own Google Ads access. The announcement gives no general compliance deadline, and the compliance team is already reviewing existing integrations.

AI Overviews expand to full size on some queries, the Show more button is gone

Per Search Engine Land on August 28, 2026, Google confirmed that AI Overviews dynamically expand on some queries. On affected queries the Show more button that previously hid the full answer disappears, the summary opens at full size, and the follow up question box loads by default on desktop; a question typed into it moves the user into an AI Mode session. The expanded block can fill the entire browser window on desktop and pushes core search results down. If the user has already scrolled down Google cancels the automatic expansion, and on mobile summaries still arrive truncated. The change was first spotted on August 27 by the SEO specialist Chris Long; Android Authority notes it has not been officially announced, and Google did not share what percentage of queries it affects.

Amazon joins YouTube's shopping affiliate program, creators can tag Amazon products in video

Per an announcement published on YouTube's official blog on August 27, 2026, Amazon has been added to the YouTube Shopping affiliate program. Eligible US creators can tag Amazon products in Shorts, long form videos and livestreams and earn commission on sales. The statement is attributed to Travis Katz, GM and VP of Shopping at YouTube, and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan also shared the announcement. Per Engadget the affiliate program also operates in Argentina, Mexico and the United Kingdom, YouTube lowered the subscriber threshold from 1,000 to 500 in March 2026, and more than 1 million people have joined YouTube Shopping to date. The detail of the eligibility conditions does not appear in the announcement body, which points to a YouTube support page.

The agenda moves fast, the system stays calm.
