A US judge throws out the Chegg and Penske Media AI Overviews cases against Google

In a 41-page opinion dated September 30, 2026, US Judge Amit P. Mehta granted Google’s motions to dismiss the antitrust suits that Chegg and Penske Media Corporation filed against Google and Alphabet. The publishers argued that letting Google crawl their content for free in return for traffic amounted to a bargain; Mehta found the complaints described no offer, negotiation or commitment, only an expectation. PMC’s tying claim failed because it had not plausibly shown general search and AI Overviews to be separate products, and the unjust enrichment claims were not decided on the merits. A final, appealable order accompanies the opinion, while a separate publisher case against Google’s adtech is going ahead.

Sucuri documents SC, WordPress malware that rebuilds itself after every deletion

On September 30, 2026 Gabriel Barbosa, a security analyst at Sucuri, described a WordPress malware family the company calls SC. The backdoor sits in at least eight locations at once, including a .user.ini file, loaders in wp-content, the db.php and advanced-cache.php drop-ins, the active theme’s functions.php and a fake must-use plugin. Further copies live in the database options table and in shared memory, so the set comes back even after every file on disk is cleaned. The malware adopts or creates a hidden administrator account, reads its instructions from an Ethereum smart contract and, according to Sucuri, enables checkout skimming on a store. Sucuri sets out a clear cleanup sequence and recommends patched components and a web application firewall.

Türkiye's Advertising Board rules a market chain's "no pesticide detected" claim misleading

On October 1, 2026 Türkiye’s Ministry of Trade announced that its Advertising Board, at meeting number 372 on August 13, 2026, found statements on a market chain’s website saying no pesticide was detected in its produce misleading. Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry inspections had found pesticide residues in 15 tomato and pepper samples, all below the regulatory limits, and the produce could still be sold. The Board judged that this promotion, despite the residues, suggested the produce contained no pesticide at all, and ordered the advertising stopped and an administrative fine applied. According to Takvim and Memurlar.net, 56 fresh fruit and vegetable samples were taken in total, and Takvim says the inspections took place in Antalya.
