Google turns Gemini into a single agent for work, starting with businesses

At Gemini at Work on October 8, 2026, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian introduced the Gemini agent, built to field questions, carry out knowledge work, produce images and media, and write and execute code. For multi-step jobs it can spin up temporary sub-agents with their own identities. The coworker agent gets a Workspace account of its own, with an email address, a calendar, a Drive and a directory listing, and TechCrunch notes that every step it takes lands in an audit trail credited to the agent. It works with any MCP server, and real-time spend caps can be set per project in the Cloud Billing Console. TechCrunch reports that businesses get it first and consumers later.

A Google ad showing a Bing address sent searchers to a fake Claude installer

On October 9, 2026, Push Security published a malvertising technique it nicknamed Adception. A sponsored Google result for Claude on Mac listed bing.com as its domain; a click passed through Google's ad redirect and Bing's click-logging endpoint to the hijacked WordPress site of a genuine homeopathy retailer in South America, and from there to a fake Claude download page. The page displayed Anthropic's genuine install command, yet its copy button put a different command on the clipboard. By Push's count, 4 in 5 of the ClickFix attacks it detects reach victims through search engines. Staff who want to install AI tools should skip the ads and go straight to the vendor's official website.

The Deno team joins Cloudflare: Deno Deploy shuts down in six months

On October 9, 2026 Ryan Dahl announced that Deno's whole team is moving to Cloudflare, and Cloudflare published a joint post the same day signed by Kenton Varda and Dahl. The team will work alongside the Workers and Durable Objects groups. Deno Deploy runs for six more months and then closes, with migration help for paying customers moving to Cloudflare Workers. The Deno runtime gets monthly bug and security fixes for one more year, after which the team stops developing it; Deno stays open source. The JSR package registry keeps operating. Code and ideas from celld, which the team released in August, will be folded into workerd, Cloudflare's open-source runtime.
