In Meta v26.0 one placement errors, one is silently stripped
Meta released Graph API and Marketing API v26.0 on July 29, 2026 and the changes took effect the same day. Calls that explicitly request the Instagram Explore Feed placement return an error, while the Messenger Stories value is removed without one. 47 commerce endpoints are blocked and WhatsApp Status ads gained carousels.
One release, two API surfaces, immediate effect
Meta announced Graph API v26.0 and Marketing API v26.0 in a developer blog post dated July 29, 2026, credited to Ayyad Farah and Manjari Jain. The technical detail sits on a single changelog page split into Graph API and Marketing API sections; there is no separate versioned Marketing API changelog. No transition period was defined for versioned calls, so the changes apply from day one on v26.0 and later.
The two advertising items look similar but behave in opposite ways. A call that explicitly requests the Instagram Explore Feed placement now returns an error, and Meta's documentation says delivery shifts to other eligible placements. The story value inside messenger_positions, which corresponds to the Messenger Stories placement, is silently stripped from ad set create and update calls instead, meaning the request still succeeds. Meta also adds a note on historical data: "Historical targeting data may continue to include it."
Poll ads closed too: the poll component can no longer be used when creating or updating ads and ad creatives. Existing poll ads are not deleted, and updates that leave the creative alone can continue.
47 commerce endpoints, quiet breakages and one addition
The largest item in the release is not on the advertising side. Meta blocked calls to 47 endpoints in the Commerce Order Management family on v26.0 and later, with no replacement API. The closed operations cover order retrieval and listing, line items, payment and payment transaction records, refunds, shipment tracking, returns management and tax settings. The documentation states the reason plainly: checkout directly on Facebook and Instagram for Shops has been sunset. The API cleanup is new; the product decision behind it is not.
Another group of changes will be felt in integration code rather than on the ads screen. The pretty, debug and date_format query parameters are removed; root requests in the form GET /?ids=... now return errors; and legacy ETag response headers along with 304 Not Modified behaviour are gone. On the New Pages Experience side, current_location, genre, network, parking and start_info now return version errors. In Rights Manager four owner fields are deprecated in favour of RightsHolderOwner types, and on this item Meta says the old fields remain available on v25.0 and earlier for two years.
There is one loss that matters for reporting: the delivery estimate fields daily_outcomes_curve, budget_guardrail and estimate_dau are removed from responses with nothing put in their place. Any third-party dashboard that showed budget or reach curves before launch loses that data.
The one additive item in the release is WhatsApp Status ads. That surface gained carousel ads with up to 10 cards, identity specs, targeting, conversion optimisation for the Sales, Leads and Engagement objectives, and Landing Page Views optimisation as well. Our reading is that because the card ceiling matches Meta's other carousel inventory, this is the surface catching up rather than a new format. Per PPC Land's reading, the wamo_whatsapp_identity_spec field is now mandatory for third-party callers and user_age_unknown defaults to true when left unset. In the same release, advantage_audience must be passed explicitly as 0 or 1 for Housing, Employment and Financial Products ad sets using relaxable targeting, because the API no longer infers it.
The quiet breakage and the October 27 threshold
For agencies and tool builders the real risk is not Explore Feed but Messenger Stories. One errors, so it shows up in the logs. The other strips the value quietly, so the call succeeds while the delivery footprint changes. A team watching only for API errors catches the first and misses the second. On top of that, historical targeting data continuing to include the value mixes a placement that can no longer be bought into year over year placement comparisons.
The second issue is the calendar. This looks like a version-scoped package, but it does not stay that way: on October 27, 2026, roughly 90 days after launch, the same restrictions extend to every supported version, and the 47 commerce endpoints are removed from all versions entirely. Staying on an older version buys about three months, not a permanent exemption. The other dates in the version table point the same way: v20.0 disappears on September 24, 2026 and v21.0 on January 21, 2027. The expiration date for v26.0 itself has not been announced.
A note on scale: per the versions table Meta ships this series at roughly four to five month intervals, and v25.0 also carried a headline removal. So this is a scheduled release, not a change of direction. What makes it news is not its strategic meaning but the operational deadline it creates for agencies and tool vendors. Meta's blog post and changelog carry no executive statement or spokesperson comment, and there is no independent verification either: the source is the company documenting its own changes.
What it means for businesses in Türkiye
The assessment below is our reading, not something stated in the sources. Neither Meta's blog post nor the changelog contains a single line about Türkiye, a Turkish rollout or a country-specific schedule; every date in the release is global. So agencies, e-commerce panels and reporting tools in Türkiye face the same July 29, 2026 and October 27, 2026 dates as everyone else.
Four practical notes. First, go looking for the quiet breakage: list the ad sets using the Messenger Stories placement today, because no error is raised and the problem does not arrive as a warning. Second, tool inventory: if your ads run through a third-party panel or automation, ask your provider which API version it calls and what its October 27 plan is, since pinning a version delays the exposure rather than resolving it. Third, commerce data: if you pull order, refund, shipment or tax data from Facebook and Instagram Shops into your own system, that feed closes with no API replacement, and order management has to move entirely to your own site. Fourth, reporting expectations: dashboards showing pre-launch budget and reach estimates lose those fields, and a client may notice that before the agency does, so it is better to flag it up front.
The UNALSOFT take
On our ad management side, version changes are not a developer detail but part of account maintenance. How a placement closes matters as much as the fact that it closed: a change that errors announces itself, while a change stripped in silence is only caught by an eye watching delivery distribution. The work this release calls for is not a panicked migration but a calm checklist placed between two dates.
A system catches the quiet breakage.
Let's review your account together before October 27.
