Google Pics is live: Nano Banana image creation and editing comes to Workspace

Per the announcement published on Google's official blog on September 1, 2026, Google Pics, the Workspace image creation and editing tool, is now available. It is built on Google's Nano Banana image generation and editing model and is rolling out over the coming weeks to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and to most Workspace business customers. Pics works both as a standalone product and inside Workspace apps; the integration started with Docs and Slides, and Drive is being added in the coming weeks. The announcement lists four capabilities: object segmentation, in-image text editing and translation, collaborating on the same image, and multiple generations from a single prompt. Google explains its reasoning through usage volume and states that the goal is to remove the need to jump between applications to create and share visuals.

Reddit opens its 15-second video goal, payment can follow longer watch time

Per Reddit's official announcement of September 1, 2026, 15-second Engaged Video Views launched as a new optimization goal and billing option for video advertisers, in public beta for all advertisers worldwide. For videos of 15 seconds or shorter a completed view counts as an engaged video view, while for longer videos the count happens once someone watches for at least 15 seconds, and advertisers pay only for those views. Automated bidding options include lowest cost and cost cap. Reddit reported that alpha testers saw a 51 percent higher 15-second view-through rate and a 71 percent higher video completion rate on average. The company recommends the 15-second goal for trailers, product demos, feature explainers, testimonials and brand storytelling, and writes that when a message lands almost immediately the 6-second goal may still be the better fit.

STORY 3 · PUBLISHING

AdSense and Ad Manager change impression counting, begin-to-render starts February 17, 2027

Per Google's official AdSense help page, impression measurement for display inventory in Google Ad Manager and AdSense shifts from count-on-download to begin-to-render beginning February 17, 2027. Count-on-download counted an impression when an ad started to download to a user's device; begin-to-render counts it once the ad creative has successfully loaded and started to render on the device. The scope covers display inventory on web, mobile web and CTV banner. Google notes that Ad Manager and AdSense already use this method for native, app and video inventory, that the shift unifies impression counting methodologies, and that no action is required from publishers. Google also notes that total display impressions may decrease after the change, because begin-to-render counts an impression later in the ad serving process. Per Search Engine Land, Google recommends that publishers run reports comparing the two methods.
