Every seller of consumer goods in the EU must show the harmonized legal guarantee notice from September 27, 2026, and durability guarantees beyond two years get the GARAN label

From September 27, 2026 every seller of consumer goods in the EU, in physical shops and online, must display the harmonized EU legal guarantee notice. Where a producer offers a durability guarantee of more than two years, the fixed GARAN label becomes mandatory on the same date. The basis is Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 and Directive (EU) 2024/825; PPC Land flagged the one-week countdown on September 20.

01 · WHAT HAPPENED?

One week to go: from September 27 the notice goes up in every shop and on every online store

Per the European Commission's Your Europe guidance, the harmonized EU legal guarantee notice becomes mandatory on September 27, 2026 for sellers of consumer goods in the EU; where a producer offers an additional durability guarantee, the GARAN label becomes mandatory the same day. The Commission adopted the implementing regulation on September 25, 2025 as a follow-up to the directive on empowering consumers for the green transition. The Commission says the notice will be "prominently on display in all shops, both online and offline".

This is not a new announcement; the calendar was set last fall. PPC Land's countdown piece (Luis Rijo, September 20, 2026) names the instrument: Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, adopted September 25, 2025, published in the Official Journal on October 2, 2025 and applying from September 27, 2026, the same day national measures transposing Directive (EU) 2024/825 apply. The guidelines, the notice files in all 24 EU languages and the language-neutral GARAN label files sit on a DG Justice and Consumers page dated March 19, 2026.

02 · DETAILS

The notice cannot be edited, is A4 at minimum and online must be in color with a clickable link; on the GARAN label producers fill in only three fields

Per Your Europe, the notice tells consumers that every consumer in the EU has at least two years of legal guarantee protection, that the period varies by country, and how to seek redress; its QR code opens guarantee information in the consumer's language. It cannot be printed smaller than A4, may be color or black-and-white in a shop and must be in color online. Per the DG JUST guidelines as summarized by PPC Land, nothing may be edited, from border and colors to typography and QR position. Online, the RGB version must stay legible and carry a clickable link to the same Your Europe page as the QR code; the guidelines show that link on product catalog pages, in the site header and at checkout, and the notice should also appear in the order confirmation email.

The GARAN label stands for a voluntary commercial durability guarantee expressed in years and applies only when the producer offers it free of charge, for the whole product and for more than two years; when those conditions are met, using it is mandatory. Its elements are fixed: the producer edits only the guarantee length, the brand and the model ID. Printed, it cannot be smaller than 95 x 100 mm; online it must be in color and may use a nested format that expands on a first click. Per PPC Land, the years value must be a whole number (half years are allowed only as 2,5 or 4,5) and the QR code at least 2 x 2 cm; the label may appear on product pages, right before order placement at checkout and in the confirmation email.

03 · WHY IT MATTERS

The duty sits with the seller, the decision with the producer: the two-year legal guarantee becomes visible at the till and on the checkout page

PPC Land lays out the legal chain: Directive (EU) 2024/825 of February 28, 2024 amended the Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive 2005/29/EC and inserted Article 22a, which requires the Commission to specify the notice and the label. The seller's two-year liability for lack of conformity and the commercial guarantee rules (Article 17) come from Directive (EU) 2019/771 of May 20, 2019.

Only sellers carry the duty to display the notice. Producers decide whether to offer a qualifying durability guarantee and must pass the information to sellers. The producer must give the guarantee statement on paper or by email no later than delivery, stating that the consumer's free legal remedies from the seller are unaffected. PPC Land reports that national consumer authorities enforce the transposed rules and gives no penalty amounts. Business-to-business sales are excluded.

04 · TÜRKİYE

The sources do not mention Türkiye; stores selling to consumers in the EU should confirm their scope with legal counsel

None of the sources mention Türkiye, Turkish sellers, or non-EU sellers shipping to EU consumers. Both Your Europe and PPC Land define the duty for sellers of consumer goods in the EU. Whether a store exporting from Türkiye or a marketplace seller is covered, who is responsible on a marketplace and whether a Turkish version exists are not addressed; the files exist in the 24 official EU languages only. So this article gives no definitive ruling: if you sell to consumers in the EU you are likely in scope, and legal counsel should confirm which country's law applies and who carries the duty on a marketplace. Penalty amounts are not in the sources either.

For a store in scope the work is concrete: take the target market's language file from the Commission page and place it, with the Your Europe link, on product pages, in the site header, at checkout and in the order confirmation email; use the GARAN label only for producer guarantees that qualify.

The UNALSOFT view

Our reading: a compliance job with a fixed date, ready-made files and no room for editing; on the store side it is a block wired into the template, not a design decision. In our own e-commerce solutions work, legal notices live as country- and language-specific content wired to the product page, checkout and order email templates. For a store selling into the EU, scope and marketplace responsibility need legal counsel first; the sources do not answer those two questions. After that it is the language file, the placement and keeping the GARAN label to guarantees that qualify.

Does your store that sells to customers in the EU have a place for the guarantee notice?

Let's map together where the notice and the GARAN label sit on product pages, at checkout and in the order email. A short conversation is enough to start.
