Legal copy in Search ads now has a guaranteed slot
On August 1, 2026 Google published the help page describing the text disclaimer asset for Search ads. Limited to 90 characters, it is guaranteed to appear in the first eligible description space of a responsive search ad and stops assets pinned to description line 1 from serving. It is open to all advertisers globally.
Legal text is no longer left to the description line
In responsive search ads the system decides which headline and which description gets shown. That has been a problem in regulated sectors for a long time: writing a mandatory notice into one of the description lines gave no guarantee that the line would actually serve.
The help page Google published on August 1, 2026 defines an asset that closes the gap. Text disclaimers let an advertiser display required terms, conditions and disclosures directly inside the ad. The page is unambiguous: disclaimers are guaranteed to appear in the description line section.
Search Engine Land covered it on August 3, reporting that the asset gives regulated advertisers a dedicated place for legal disclosures and takes priority over standard description copy. Search Engine Roundtable noted the feature rolling out to all accounts.
90 characters, an override on pinning and one exception
The technical frame in the help page runs as follows. The disclaimer is capped at 90 characters, matching the standard description line limit. It occupies the first eligible description space in the ad. It is added after campaign creation, through the Assets menu.
The critical detail is the pinning behaviour. An approved disclaimer asset overrides content pinned to description line 1; in the page's own words, assets in that position will not serve. When a headline moves into the description field, the disclaimer follows immediately after. So legal copy that used to be protected by pinning is now handled by this asset instead.
There are two more boundaries. First, approval: if the disclaimer asset is disapproved in policy review, the ad keeps serving, just without the disclaimer, and alternative description lines or the pinned content in position 1 show instead. Second, truncation: the page states that disclaimer assets may on rare occasions be truncated when shown to users, especially in certain languages or when larger font sizes are used for accessibility.
Two facts stand out on scope. The asset is available to all advertisers globally, and it is fully compatible with AI Max features, including Final URL Expansion and text customisation settings.
The tension between automation and compliance eases
Responsive search ads and automated text features like AI Max take control away from the advertiser and hand it to the system. That works on the performance side but left a gap on the compliance side: if you cannot guarantee a mandatory phrase appears on screen, opening automation all the way is a risk.
The text disclaimer lands exactly there. A reserved, guaranteed slot for the mandatory phrase protects compliance without constraining automation. As Search Engine Land reports, finance, insurance, healthcare and legal advertisers stand to gain the most, but the asset is open to every account globally.
As a side effect, pinning practice changes. In accounts that protected legal copy by pinning it to description line 1, two mechanisms now collide and the disclaimer wins. Accounts using pinning for this purpose need to review the setup, or the pinned text quietly stops serving.
What it means for businesses in Türkiye
The assessment below is our reading, not something stated in the sources. None of them contains a country specific breakdown; the asset is offered globally.
Plenty of categories in Türkiye require a mandatory phrase in ad copy: financial products, health services, education providers, and campaign or discount messaging. Until now those phrases were either squeezed into a description line or left to the landing page. A guaranteed slot makes the phrase part of the ad structure itself.
Three practical notes. First, inventory: list which campaigns carry a mandatory phrase and write a version that fits 90 characters. Second, collision: if you have legal copy pinned to description line 1, it will not serve once a disclaimer is added, so do not leave both in place. Third, truncation: Turkish copy fills the character count fast, so the phrase needs to survive being cut short. That last sentence is our own comment.
The UNALSOFT take
On our ad management side, compliance is not a layer added after the campaign is built but a constraint that sits inside the structure. Which phrase appears where is decided up front, because every notice bolted on later either throttles performance or lands somewhere it will not be seen. This asset makes that balance easier: you can fix the mandatory copy in place without switching automation off.
The mandatory phrase now belongs in the structure.
